MTBNav-Bush at Dry Poles Road, Ellendale
Sunday 18th November 2012
Overview
Course area is the valleys and hills around Dry Poles Road in the Derwent Valley, just south of Ellendale where there is an extensive mix of tracks and paths of all grades within forestry plantation and native bush. The terrain covers gentle to steep and smooth to rough. There is a choice of a two or four hour event, either on bike or on foot. This event was first run in 2010, with both events to date being along Pillies Road north of Ellendale.
This is a Team Rogaine for two to five people where participants devise their own route to visit as many controls on the map and thus collect as many points as possible in the time available. Teams need to be fully self sufficient with food and drinks, and carry first aid gear. The area provides excellent bike riding, and for walking Teams there is opportunity to short cut by navigating through the bush. Riders may only ride on formed roads, tracks and paths. Being a bush venue, a little riding or walking experience helps, however, less experienced participants can still enjoy the event by sticking to terrain with which they are comfortable.
Ride Bellerive is supporting this event. Start of the four hour is 10.30am and start of the two hour is 12.00 noon. Sportident electronic timing from Orienteering Tasmania will be used. Light refreshments will be provided from about 2.00pm with presentations at around 3.15pm.
