Well Christmas is as good as here, and whilst most of us have been preparing for the upcoming holidays, the Rogaining Tasmania team have been busy organising a great schedule of events for the 2012 calendar year (see right hand side column).

The first event for the year will be the postponed Clarence Marshes 12 and 6 Hour Rogaine which will now be held on Saturday March 3. There are more details about the event below and on our website, and entries are now open via EntryHub.

For those looking for something a bit further afield the Australian Rogaining Championships will be held at Flinders Ranges, South Australia over the weekend of 5-6 May. Again more details are on our website, or you can directly visit the events site.

There will also be a 4 hour Metrogaine to be held in Hobart on Sunday 26 August, and these are always great events.

Finally, there will be three MTBNav bike and foot Rogaines to be held later in 2012, and Mark Hey is looking for some volunteers to help organise and assist with these events if you want to put your hand up. See the article below for more details.

Clarence Marshes
12 and 6 Hour Rogaine

3 March 2012

The first event in the 2012 Rogaining Tasmania Calender will be a romp through the beautiful highland marshes and forests near Derwent Bridge.

The area is a combination of button grass/alpine gasslands and eucalypt forest with both grass and heath understorys. The terrain is mostly undulating but part of the area extends steeply up to the Central Plateau highlands. For those who venture up you will be rewarded with lakes, tarns, alpine moorlands and views to the Cradle Mountain/Lake St Clair National Park. Throughout the area there is a network of roads and tracks varying from insignificant bush tracks through to a major bitumen road.

Entry fees are Adult $60/person, Concession (Full time student aged 25 or younger) $50/person, Families $120/family.

Entry closes on Friday 24th February, 2012. Late entries will be allowed up until Wednesday 29th February, but there will be an extra charge of $15 per person. There will be no entry on the day. Payment options are credit card, Paypal, cheque or bank transfer.

MTBNav Events in 2012

Volunteers Wanted

For 2012 there will be three MTBNav bike and foot Rogaines:

5th August 2012 - 2 and 4 hour MTBNav-Bush at Virginstow near Parramatta Creek.

21st October 2012 - 3 and 6 hour MTBNav-Metro on the Eastern Shore, Hobart.

18th November 2012 - 2 and 4 hour MTBNav-Bush at Ellendale at either Dry Poles Road or Pillies Road.

Organisers for Virginstow are members of the Esk Valley Orienteering Club, while Bill Butler and his crew will handle the MTBNav-Metro. An organiser is required for the MTBNav-Bush at Ellendale, and all events need a further range of helpers please. Past organisers remain available to help new organisers, the mapping side is provided for, and all the gear needed is available from Rogaining Tasmania and Orienteering Tasmania.

We need you to volunteer to help in some capacity please, and I ask you to contact me on 6272 7233 or at markwhey@bigpond.com as soon as you can. New organisers bring new ideas to an event, and everyone having a go spreads the load for the rest and allows regular organisers to participate. Help us to help you.
