Coffee Bean
The Coffee Bean metrogaine held in Launceston was a successful and well-supported event. A big thank you to everyone who took part. Your participation and the dedication of volunteers who made the event run smoothly are what keep these events going strong.
The coffee theme was Christine Brown’s brainchild. Chris reports that she was delighted that the winning team took exactly the event duration of 4 hours to visit every checkpoint on the course. It couldn’t have been planned any better. Many people expressed how much they had enjoyed the event, especially if it was their first metrogaine. When Chris was taking the promotional posters around to the coffee shops there was great interest and support from the locals.
The event was won by David Atkinson and David Brooke who ran an amazing 39kms in the 4 hours. James and Ainsley Scott won the mixed category, and Sophie Best and Clara Menard the womens category. The event results and winners’ route can be found on the RT results page.
Upcoming RT events
Next, we’re heading back to the south of the state. The Roche’s Rumble will be held on Sunday August 24th in the Hobart region. Whether you’re in the mood for a walk or it’s time to give your bike tyres a boost, this is a great opportunity to shake off your winter inactivity.
Our next bush event will be held on the weekend of the 6th and 7th of December in the Midlands. Preparation for this event is progressing well. If you interested in helping at this event, send an email to Bernard Walker.
At this stage we have no events planned for 2026. Contact us if you are interested in setting a course for an event next year. You won't be on your own! The RT committee can assist with area selection and approvals, produce maps and organise the team needed to run the event.
Australasian Champs in Tasmania
I’m sure it was only last week that Tasmania last hosted an Australasian Champs. However, this was back in 2019, just months before COVID arrived. Tasmania will be hosting the Australasian Champs again in early 2027. I’m pleased to announce that RT committee member Stephen Yam (also known as China Mug) has taken on the role of Event Coordinator. Preparations for this event have begun, initially selecting and gaining approval for an event area. We’ll soon be filling key positions for this big event, but there will be many opportunities to help in other roles and on the event weekend. There will be more details in an upcoming newsletter. Email if you are interested in joining the organising team.
Positions Vacant – Social Media, Newsletter Editor or Promotion
We need some enthusiasts to join the RT team to assist with social media, the newsletter, and promotion. Duties would depend on your interests, but could include running our Facebook Page, and promoting RT events to related activities (such as orienteering, trail running, and adventure racing). You might also enjoy being involved in writing or proofreading content for our newsletter and website. Contact us for more details.
2025 World Champs
The 19th World Rogaining Championships are being held on July 5th and 6th in Spain. See wrc2025.org. There will be live tracking during the event. All the best to RT members Christine Brown, Thorlene Egerton, Jon Sutcliffe, Lucy Hawthorne and their teammates who are competing in the event.
